The passing of Prince Philip has us looking back to his royal looks.

The recent death of Queen Elizabeth's consort, Prince Philip, spurred us at The Inevitable Gentleman to look back to his early days as a young royal. Just shy of his 100th birthday, the Duke of Edenborough witnessed a lot of history and regardless of occasion, managed to always look both debonair and dashing. Here are but three style tips you can swipe from the Duke to help guide your fashion compass.
Confidence sells. Now, of course it doesn’t hurt to be born tall, athletic and with striking good looks or to have your suits custom-made on Saville Row, but for Prince Philip, it wasn’t simply what he wore, rather but how he wore it – with an air of self-assurance that allowed him to pull off any look with aplomb.
Dress for the occasion. From popped collars while playing cricket to his relaxed Tweed hunting jackets during Balmoral hunt weekends to the countless charity event black tie and tails, Philip carried himself like the monarch he was.
Look back to the classics. We’re not saying you shouldn’t dress for the times. especially while you’re young, but why not have the classics guide your current style choices? Prince Philip stuck with tried-and-true designers and resisted trendy, flashy accouterments and novelties. He opted for clean, classic fits and impeccable tailoring.
Rest in peace.
