Bowling shirt-inspired knits with modern fabrication will make you a king pin

In the 1950’s young men couldn’t get enough of the bowling shirt. They became so hip that men started wearing them off the lanes and in public at malt shops, sock hops, football games—wherever! Bowling shirts got their start as the official uniforms of bowling leagues and were typically a box-cut and featured a button-up front, short-sleeves and a small lay-flat collar in colorful block patterns.

Inspiration from the bowling shirt of yesteryear is everywhere this spring, but with welcome updates. Renamed “sweater polos,” they feature luxurious knit fabrics but retain their bold colors and patterns.
Worn with a T-shirt or without, Todd Snyder’s “Short Sleeve Full Placket Stripe Polo” in silk-cotton couldn’t feel more comfortable while still adding a touch of retro glamour to any outfit. And the poppy color couldn’t be more eye-catching! We at the Inevitable Gentleman paired it with Banana Republic’s tailored “Rapid Movement” chinos.
